Qype: Moon on the Hill in Harrow

Harrow - Pubs / Bars - Pubs

Nice little Wetherspoon’s with all the Pro’s of any other. Cheap Drinks, similar drinks selections, decent food and friendly staff. I especially like the Frisky Bison which they do now, which is Zubrówka (Bison Grass) Vodka with Apple Juice. A double doesn’t even taste alcoholic :-S

Staff are friendly too, which is always a good thing.

4 stars, a good meet-up place for mates.

Qype: Charterhouse Bar in London

London - Pubs / Bars - Pubs

Ooo, its hard to judge having ended up here at three in the morning on New Year’s Eve having stumbled round freezing London for a while, drunk. But I must say, I was here for enough time to evaluate its pros. Grey Goose Vodka behind the bar. Lovely French vodka. Everything else seemed average.

Split onto two levels, its not that big a space and it does feel a bit… Dull? Not to say its a bad place to go PRE-anywhere else, but it just seems like it wants to be somewhere better than that.

I somehow feel the PRE-drinking in a chain pub would be more entertaining, and would actually make more money if situated on its location. But, 3am isn’t the best time to go anywhere (except home), so maybe I’m making presumptions. Then again, the decor, prices, music and fellow NYE revellers didn’t inspire me to go back here. Although I won’t rule out stumbling in here when the Pubs shut.

2.5 stars, average, not bad. But nothing special either.

Qype: Radford Bank Inn in Stafford

Stafford - Restaurants - Steak Houses

I like my carvery. A lot. So I always have high hopes when I go to have one. And I have never been disappointed here, and I doubt I ever will be.

Just South-East of Stafford down the A34, next to the River Trent is the Radford Bank Inn. The building is split on two-levels, with the restaurant downstairs and the upstairs being a Lounge Bar. You have to enter downstairs in the car park area which can be confusing if you have never been there before.

As with most carveries, your choice is of Turkey, Gammon and Beef and with most carveries I have been to, I am never disappointed. Monday to Saturday a Carvery costs £3.50 and on Sunday it costs £6.50. There is plenty of non-carvery options available also for those who have weird senses of taste. :-)

Drinks are pretty cheap too with a pint of Carlsberg being £1.99, from what I can remember, and they do bottles of Woodpecker! Very refreshing!

One note of caution, it can get busy on Sundays due to its popularity, so a short wait may be in order. If that’s the case, the bar upstairs is a good place to relax.

6 Stars! Out of 5! Flawless display.

P.S. Some very friendly staff too, it must be said.

Qype: Doggetts Coat & Badge in London

London - Pubs / Bars - Bars

Not the best place I’ve ever been to, but certainly not the worst. You can always be sure there’ll be people in here due to its prominent location, however, that isn’t always a good thing.

Distinctly average with nothing unique to offer from what I found. Had one drink and moved on to the better side of the river bank.

2.5 stars, but not in a generous mood, so 2. Wouldn’t make plans to go here again.

Qype: Apres in Stafford

Stafford - Pubs / Bars - Pubs

Apres is at the end and opposite side of the town centre to the clubs and bars of Stafford. Although, this isn’t a bad thing.

Apres is a bar with very nice décor, and it can get quite warm due to the appealing (and ofcourse, warm) fires that are dotted around the room. Nice to look at, but don’t sit right next to them!

Everytime I have been here, the drinks have gotten a bit on the expensive side. But, they do specials on pitchers of cocktails from X hour (I don’t know what hour it is) until 9pm Sunday to Thursday I believe, but I keep arriving after 9!

It isn’t terribly spacious either and you do get the feeling even when there’s only 20 or so people in here that the place is a lot busier than it seems.

All in all though, I do like Apres, but the prices are a little too steep for me to warrant going here on a regular basis.

3 Stars unfortunately.
